DEGALDORUWA TEMPLE


Degaldoruwa temple is located at Amunugama .in a village 4 kilometers from Kandy The easiest way; it can be reached from Kandy city via Lewella,
In 1771AD the Degaldoruwa temple was built by King Rajidi Rajasinge .This temple is considered as a cave temple with paintings and Architectures of kandyan Era.
Which is popular Jathaka story “vesanthra “and other three Jathaka stories are drawn at this cave temple. Also this painting is recognized as some of the best examples of the kandyan paintings.
There is many painting in the shrine room ceiling and surface .the Earth Goddess of Mahi Kanthwa, the Lord Buddha and the mara and his forces. That cave had been created for shrine room of Buddha and it is large for worshippers.
The temple has an extraordinary look two large rocks which are connected from the bottom to the top .which is about
40 feet in height to make the temple a part of the rocks have been broken to make a shrine room for Buddha.

    

ALUTHNUWERA DADIMUNDA DEVALAYA

 

The Aluthnuwara is located in sabaragamuwa province after passing kadugannawa winding rounding over the rings of hill off hingula, there is a pandol (Thorna) on singing to the turning point and small shrine dedicated to the God Dadiminda.
According to the records king parakkramabahu ll, was traveled through Aluthnuwara on his way to Sri Phada, The temple, it is known as Galgama Rajamaha veharaya at Udagala that veharaya dates back to pre –Dabadenya era.
The peresent Aluthnuwara Dademunda devalya built by moligoda maha Adikaram whose walawwe still we can see close to the devala and it is dedicated to the God dadimunda,
There are many stories about God dadimunda one story says that a Bandara from kandyan kingdom became a Devatha on the basis of merits done in a previous life he landed at devinuwara in sri lanka and then proceed to senigama and later to Aluthnuwara and other opinion As describe Dadimunda variously as a Devatha bandara .veravikum, yahala Bandara and yahala Deviyo.
When king parakramabahu ll fell sick that minister Devapthraja sought the help of god upulvan of devinuwara minister devaprya went to the Devinuwara and held a perahera for seven days to bring blessing on the king but it was not success, at the last night on perahera god upulvan appeared in the form of the Brahmin and told, the king could not recovery as it was part of his karma from a previous life .Devapathraja expressed a wish to build a devala at dabadenya but was over ruled by the queen, who wanted to built a devala at Aluthnuwara and so the devala dedicated to god upulvan came to be the site was chosen by the queen sunethra and the chief priest of the temple
Aluthnuwara procession is held on July/August before the four Devala procession in Kandy tooth temple, the aluthnuwara procession could be the origin of the procession of hill country most of the central province, sabaragamuwa province north west devotes proceed during that procession days as it is more honest and bring blessing Aluthnuvara devala and which one of four devalas in Kandy vesnu devalya belong And arrangement of festival by lay custodian “Basnayaka Nelame”Mohan panabokka

Rathnapura by  Last king sri vikrama Rajasinge as Mahadisawe he built small reservoir and water canal to support local rice farm the work still visible around the Rahnapura and local people benefiting from his work also today.
