Kandy city - the cultural capital of Sri Lanka
Kandy is a hill capital of sri lanka and kandy was the last kingdom,which come to an end on March 2nd 1815. When the last king of Kandy sri wikrama Rajasinge after his death Colombo become a new capital.
The name comes from the Sinhala word “kanda” kanda meaning “Hill” for it became the capitol of the hill country in Sinhala .it is known as “mahanuwara” .meaning the capital city ,it is actual name was “senkadagalapura”
According to the history this name originated as the several possible sources .that one reason who lived in a cave near by the city with name senkada another being a queen of wikkramabahu lll was named senkada.
Kandy is the second largest city in sri lanka after Colombo and among one of most scenic cites in sri lanka also administrative and religious capital city of central province.
