Sri Dalada Maligawa Peripheral BuildingsThe visitors would return to the Hevisi mandapa area and visit the peripheral buildings in the courtyard of the central shrine ,on the three side to right .left and back are found structures built over the years to serve various functions of the sacred tooth relic .the lower storey of the building to the right of the shrine is utilized as the place for receiving visiting dignitaries and as the office of the person who officiates (kariya karawana Rala)while the upper storey constitutes the residence quarters of the monk who are engaged in the daily service(tevava)of the tooth relic throughout the year .the monks of the two chapters of malwatta and Asgiriya monasteries conduct the services period in the month of July at the beginning of the rainy season(vassa).

The building of the left of the shrine consists of the office of the Diyavadana Nilame in the lower ground and the library in the upper storey.

Sri Dalada Maligawa Peripheral Buildings - Hevisi mandapa

The three –stored building at the back of the shrine is the most recent structure and is known as the new maligawa building .on entering the ground floor of this solid building, which has been build following the characteristic sri Lankan design concept, the visitor will be able to enjoy yet another grand spectacle of a shrine room, containing a large golden Buddha image and other decorative sculptures donated by the Thai Royal devotees and others,Commemorating the great services rendered by the Theravadins of Thailand under the patronage of Venerable Upali thera, in re-establishing the higher ordination (upasampada) in the 18th century, on the advice of Venerable Welivita sangaraja during the region of keerthi sri Rajasinghe .resent painting relating the various episodes of the sacred tooth relic decorate the pillared hall ,which is used for the gathering of devotees and for holding religious ceremonies on special occasions.
