Four Devala in Kandy (sathara maha Devala)

The three Devala are located in tooth temple complex and one Devala is out of that area among that four, Vishnu, Natha, patina, Devala on the north west of the tooth temple katharagama Devala is situated about 100m little away from tooth temple,in Kotugodella Street in Kandy city.

God Vishnu devalaya is situated north of the Natha Devalaya, God Vishnu is expecting for getting enlightenment For next life, it will be after God Natha as in kandyan era God Vishnu is more venerated and guardian god of Buddhism thus protecting the land of Sri Lanka the word of Buddha heard to lord of the god and respect handed over the guardianship to sri lanka to the god who is in colour like the lotus the deity is called “Upulvan”deiyo some legend has explained who is the god was brought from Devinuwara.(mathara) to Aluthnuwara (keglle) that Deity called Aluthnuwera Deiyo,in 15th century “paravi sandesaya”introduced that deity at Devenuwara Deiyo in 19th century Ehelepola “varnanawa”explans this devala “Rama devala” there are few shrines .on terrace on the left God dadimunda Devalya and right holy boo tree, that complex entrance has doorway( vahalkada) and in the middle terrace has a open hall with timber columns ,stone craving steps towards dreaming hall and main shrine room entrance created with symbol of dragon and both sides guardian images Vishnu devala is committed to the Kandy tooth temple procession in association lotus colour wearing through dancers ,dreamers and more as it imagine to pay homage for Lord Buddha ongoing first in Devala procession ,Vishnu devala procession coordinating on responsibly by lay custodian “Basnayaka Nilame” Mohan panabokka

Natha Devalaya

Sri Dalada Maligawa natha Devalaya

In 14th century Natha devalya is built by king vikramaahu lll also it is the oldest building structure in kandyan kingdom the roof of the image house is created as Gedige two pagodas and when the excavation recently found circular basement are among that holy land most important pagoda has built on north to natha devala it has deposited bowl relic which used Buddha, an open hall with timber columns the vahalkada and two tow grads stones on the sides and the makara thorana on the top .the persists services are available on time table they are not blessing for devotees while the tevava (offering),Mahayana Buddhism followers highly worshiped to “Avalokeshvera” bodhisattva ,God Natha appeared in many forms in different regions and during different Era in sri lanka one of these forms is “avalokesvera”during the kandyan Era God Nstha was a great deity ,Natha devala participation to Kandy tooth temple procession great pleasure as completed Devala procession ,this special event coordinate and observation by Natha Dewala lay custodian “Basnayaka Nilame”

Pattini Devalaya

Goddess pattini origin of south Indian Kandy and Nawagamuwa are dedicated for Goddess pattini ,Kandy pattini devala is situated at the west of Natha dewala it is a small rectangular building on the usually stone platform still not found that the devala established period ,according to the witness it may be before four century ,king gajabahu has built this devala for Goddess pattini devotees visit to goddess pattini to bring blessing for children’s diseases ,infectious diseases and propitiated in times of drought ,the goddess pattini Devala also participating to the Kandy cultural procession adding females kandyan dancers and pay homage to holy tooth relic.

Kathragama Devalya –Kandy

The katharagama devalaya is situated outside from the tooth temple complex in kotugodella street ,the shrine main entrance facing to the road and that vahalkada (Entrance door away) is created colorfully main shrine is facing to the Entrance and Buddha’s image room and temple at the west end on the right many of Hindu gods and goddess image rooms Few legends have about God katharagama, According to the Tamils belief the deity skanda also known as murugan,Arumugam,kandasami, subramanyam,that legend explains further more as god skanda came to sri lanka as a noisy quarrel with his wife Thevani, later he married 16 years old “walli” from katharagama area.
