Yapahuwa

The Buddhist heritage site of yapahuwa is situated in the north west province of Sri Lanka between kurunegala and Anuradhapura of midway at maho that place situated about 4 kilometers from railway station to city of maho.In 1272 yapahuwa was the capital of sri lanka king Buwanakabahu shifted the capital from polonnaruwa to yapahuwa as the south Indian invaders conquered polonnaruwa, king Buwanakabahu collected Buddha’s tooth relic with safe and protect to invasions and built on a huge rock boulder to keep tooth relic in the style of the sigiriya rock fortress, on the top of the rock are remains of stupa .Bo tree, and cave for Buddhist monk, as earlier this place was the Buddhist monastery, still many ruins as several caves, in one of them is a shrine with Buddha image, also script inscription,In 1284 king Buwenakabahu died and after south Indians invasions captured Sri Lanka and tooth relic then the tooth relic was carried away from the temple by the south Indians "pandayas" which that time tooth relic was kept at Dabadenya temple. 

The Maligavila Buddha’s statue

When it was found it was in broken pieces but it was assembled later the statue is located close to Monaragala .it was a standing Buddha the tallest statue in Sri Lanka This statue was built by king Agga bodhi.
